$12,500. That doesn't sound that horrible. Key word is that. Still looks fantastic in that blue, and targa.

Sheet, not bad price at all, but could be talked down depending on condition maybe(even though it is a barn find). It's a pre-galvanized car so best be careful.

Total NP. Even if the thing doesn't run. BUY IT. I would do terrible, terrible things for a dark green Targa.

I know of a tatty 911T targa stored in a building that I'd like to make an offer on someday. As far as I know it has sat for a few years (though it's plated, I don't know how current they are) and it looks unloved. I'm hoping it stays stored, away from prying eyes while I bide my time.

It's so close! Do it!

I almost bought a running, decent condition '79 SC for $14,500. Probably needed $2-3k of work at most. Would have been a terrible decision at the time, and a wonderful one now. Blah.

Super CP. Not worth even close to that price. Not only is it a mid-year, it's a targa. Probably the two least desirable 911 traits.

Watch out for rust. The Porsches of that era weren't galvanized and thus tend to be prone to rusting. Then, if it still has the factory 2.7L motor, watch out for the issues that plague it - particularly the head studs and valve guides. Luckily, the 1974s shouldn't have the emission equipment the later 2.7Ls have, so hopefully you're fine there.

Basically, just make sure a trusted Porsche mechanic does a pre-purchase inspection.

I've heard there's a great Porsche shop in Gordonsville off of Rt. 20 if you do go for it. Shouldn't be too far away, though Madison is a pretty large area.

I'd be a bit concerned about rust on the underbody, as it is from the pre-galvanized era, and there's a pretty significant amount of rust on the body, but the mid-70s cars are pretty desired, so it might not be too overpriced. Judging by a quick rennlist search, you could spend ~$30K to get it to decent condition (not concourse, obviously) and still come out ahead.

I know a place in Easton Maryland which also does Porsche restoration. No clue if they're still in business though.

Rust would be a major concern, and I'm seeing a bit towards the bottom of the door. Which also probably means rocker panels.

The place in Gordonsville would be a place you could easily trailer it there to just to get it running/driving. I'm not entirely sure where you are in the area, but I tend towards places in VA due to growing up around Fredericksburg.

There's a lot all around, though I'm sure some is just surface rust. Floor pans almost definitely need to be replaced, and the front quarter panels look... fun.

As of right now, I'm probably not financially sound enough to execute anything major. I have nothing that I could trailer anything with, space constraints and if anything would be sitting around for a long time or would break the bank.

I'd probably have to find something running and driving for under $20,000 if I were to actually pull it off.

I'm in Prince William, and I'll definitely take note of that Porsche shop for future reference.

Darn life. I wish I could be, but that won't be for a loooooooooooong time. Maybe I'll get a 944 at some point in my life. I think I can convince myself to settle for that.

While I really want you to get a 911 I think you should stay away from this trap.

Way too much rust. And this version of the 2.7L motor sucks. The 2.7 RS is awesome. But this one is a turd.

You should get a safe 911 - like a 1981 911SC

Yup, I've been scared off already haha. Too much rust, chance of it never turning over again and the price is a bit much for me.

do you belong to a credit union?

if not you need to!

you'd feel better about debt if you had my credit union

they just offered me 1.75% on a 5 year used car loan up to $90K!
